| Character Registration TemplateCharacter Name: Hideaki Shudan Titles/Other Names: Kuroi Kyouran (The Black Fury) Age: 29 Species: Human Gender: Male Appearance: Shudan is a dark-skinned male with dreadlocks and a small goatee. He has brown eyes and is considered quite handsome, with a heart-shaped face and smooth, unscarred facial skin. He is of average height, with the athletic build one would expect from a shinobi with his experience. While his face might be unscarred, his lower body contains several scars. His torso has a cut running from his waist to his chest, the results of an attack that nearly killed him. His right upper arm has been burned a while ago judging by the scars on it, indicating third degree burns in the past. Personality: Shudan, despite being mature to the point of already having exceeded the average life expectancy of a shinobi, is nevertheless characterized by several personality traits that are more often found in younger men. Cocky, headstrong, confident and short-tempered, it is the qualities that make him a charismatic leader that at the same time can lead him to make mistakes. As an important member of the Hatsukaze, he considers the group’s advancement in power and status to be his biggest concern and responsibility and works to improve these factors with every bit of ruthlessness and determination one would come to expect from a shinobi. Shudan is generally laid-back, an air of confidence surrounding him. He appears easy-going, friendly and talkative when dealing with people both within and outside of his group. A good public speaker, his charisma can’t be denied. A cunning strategist and tactician, he possesses a natural talent for leadership. A typical alpha male, he takes a great deal of pride in both his abilities as a shinobi and his leadership skills, and doesn’t take kindly to either being challenged. He believes that he is the only one qualified to lead the Hatsukaze into greatness. Considering himself to be a great leader, he does not tolerate people who he considers below him challenging his authority or opinion. Somewhat of a narcissist, Shudan cannot truly appreciate others, nor can he appreciate power that is not his, only seeing such individuals as obstacles to overcome. Shudan is merciless and pragmatic. Trickery, murder, assassination, diplomacy, torture, all of them are but methods to an end, and tools he will gladly use to his advantage it will help him and his clan reach greater heights. This extends to the way he fights: he isn’t above fighting dirty and considers anyone who lets himself be held back by some moral code an idiot. He is the type of man who will gladly soil his hands to get what he wants, not caring about who gets caught in between. He firmly believes that a person’s value is determined by what they are capable of, and sees life as a way of figuring out where he stands. Shudan is a proud individual, and most dangerous when that pride is injured. He is a person who easily keeps a grudge. Against his enemies he possesses a large amount of ruthlessness and sadism, gladly going out of his way to make the lives of his enemies more miserable if he can afford to do so. Never really having been able to live down being born in echelons way lower than he thinks his genius deserves, Shudan sees his enemies, allies and even his own organization as an extension of himself in his goal to satisfy his own ego. He believes that he is capable of reaching far greater heights, even if he must go over corpses to do so. Likes: Being ahead, fishing, smoking the pipe, sake, horror novels, forests Dislikes: Humiliation, the Uchiha, rabbits, snowy climates Favorite Food: Smoked salmon Least Favorite Food: Red beets Background/History: Humble Beginnings - Spoiler:
Humble is the best way to describe Shudan’s beginnings. Born in a small village in the Strip, Shudan has no ancestry to speak of when it comes to being a shinobi. His father, Makuran, was a shinobi who had fled the Fire Country together with his brother Chiaki. Both shinobi had recently discovered a new Kekkei Genkai that they shared, but the nearby Uchiha clan feared competition to their power. Makuran and Chiaki managed to flee before the Uchiha could send their agents after them. Being the oldest child of Makuran, the eldest of the brothers, he grew up seeing both his father and his uncle do anything in their ability to increase the clan’s reputation, power and size even if it meant taking multiple wives to make more children for the clan. As the eldest of the second generation of Hideaki, Shudan’s earliest memories were of helping out to take care of his younger brothers, sisters and cousins, all the while training with his father and uncle to improve his own skills as a ninja.
A clan still in the making, the Hideaki still lacked the power to battle pretty much any other clan, which is why Makuran and Chiaki always told their children to stay low to avoid attracting the attention of other clans, much to the dismay of Shudan. A proud individual by nature, Shudan quickly began to resent these bigger, more advanced clans for making them live under these circumstances. His pride gave him a natural talent for leadership however, and many of his cousins and brothers looked up to him as such. Like many children during those times, Shudan had to grow up too fast and was burdened with responsibilities from an early age, essentially being groomed to become the next leader of the Hideaki. His skills were quite advanced for a child his age due to the harsh training he received from Makuran and Chiaki, already reaching the lower echelons of the C–tier when he was only 8. By the age of 10 he had mastered his first path, and was also already learning Suiton techniques from his father and some basic Katon by his uncle.
Shadow of Fear- Spoiler:
Everything changed when Shudan was only twelve, and they changed for the worse. One day Shudan was training some of the younger Hideaki when Makuran suddenly rushed in. Beads of sweat on his forehead, the man struggled to keep his voice calm, but urgency and borderline panic managed to find their way into his speech nonetheless. He told Shudan to take the other children and go into the hidden tunnel located under the main building. Shudan could feel fear rising in his chest, but knew better than to disobey his father in a situation such as this. He lead the children of the Hideaki into the secret tunnel. This tunnel lead into a cave system behind the waterfall where Takigakure no Sato once stood proudly. This maze-like cave system was well-known by the young Hideaki as it was a place where they played many times as children. However, as the last child was carried into the tunnel, a sound resonated through the tunnel that filled Shudan’s stomach with lead. It was a sound that made him realize just how severe the situation was.
His father had just sealed the cave entrance by igniting the explosive tags placed around it.
There was no way back now. Shudan was forced to push away his fears. He was the eldest, and the children of the Hideaki looked towards him to guide them through the tunnels. And so he did, leaving his father and uncle behind.
They hid for days in the tunnel system, sticking together in the darkness as the smell of fire invaded even the caves themselves. Unable to tell day from night in the damp darkness, all the Hideaki could do was hold each other’s hands and hope for the best. After three days hunger finally got the best of them, and they left the caves through the waterfall. The light of dawn shone through the treetops, and the Hideaki children went on home, dreading what they would find. When they found the village, their worst fears became reality. The main building had been burned down to the ground. Surrounding it were six corpses.
Makuran and Chiaki were among them.
As several children began crying, Shudan once again swallowed away his own tears and turned towards the other children. He instructed the older ones to comfort the younger ones while he investigated the site of battle. The house was apparently burned down by Chiaki himself using Katon. Both Hideaki were quite dead, their corpses indicating that they burned to death. This was most definitely not Chiaki’s doing… The other corpses were even stranger. All of them individuals with dark hair that had their eyes crushed. Later, when Shudan began researching other clans the answers became clear. Katon-techniques, dark hair and crushed eyes that were obviously attempts to prevent people from looting the eyes from their corpses… these were four Uchiha shinobi. Rage boiled in his guts as he realized what had happened. The Uchiha were the reason Makuran and Chiaki left the Fire Country in the first place, and they were the reason both of them were dead.
Infuriated, Shudan swore revenge on the Uchiha. At that moment he was still too weak. The Hideaki were still too weak. Shudan himself was only C-1 level at that time, and he was the best his clan had to offer. But one day he would see the Uchiha writhe at his feet. That was a promise he made himself.
From that point, he had to lead the Hideaki. A boy of twelve had to lead an entire clan. He appointed the oldest of his brothers and sisters to train the youngest Hideaki while he began rebuilding the structure of the clan. Under his rule the Hideaki clan grew in power. They managed to stay under the radar for years, training among the ruins of Takigakure no Sato. They accepted no contracts yet, instead they lived on what they could forage. Sometimes they would attack trading vehicles, but only whenever they felt that it would not draw too much attention to the woods that were their home. Gradually, they grew stronger. As did Shudan himself. His process was slower now that he had no one to teach him, but self-practice brought him to the higher echelons of the B-tier by the time he began nearing his twenties.
Short-lived Glory- Spoiler:
Shudan got married at the age of 22. The Hideaki, a close-knit community, were having children of their own. The children were raised by the entire clan as a whole, parents supporting one another and training the newborn in the arts of shinobi combat. The third generation of the Hideaki was being born and trained. They began accepting missions as well. Slowly other clans began hearing of the Hideaki. The Hideaki were generally humble when dealing with other clans, still recognizing the power of these older and larger clans. But gradually the small clan began showing confidence, remaining humble yet no longer being a group of weak, cowering children in a cave. Sure, they were still small-time, but they were beginning to look after themselves.
Shudan in the meantime had turned into a charismatic and respected leader and representative of the clan. By his mid twenties he was an A-tier shinobi, an elite, and gained the respect befitting such a rank. He began winning himself infamy titles, all of which fueled his pride and his belief that his clan had the potential to become just as great as the Uchiha and the Senju, if not greater. They didn’t have the sharingan, or the Senju’s incredibly life energy, but they had versatility. The fact was that when facing a Hideaki on the battlefield you could never guess which paths they had and what kind of fighting style they were going to use. That unpredictability was one of their biggest assets.
Everything changed one day, however. Shudan’s own cockiness got in the way of their success. The Hideaki were offered a job tackling a high-level mission. They were to go to battle with a large band of missing-nin, a group large enough to give even more experienced and powerful clans a hard time. His siblings warned Shudan that the Hideaki was biting off more than they could chew, but Shudan would have none of it. He didn’t want to be outdone by bigger clans. He didn’t want the assignment to get passed to any other clan. So he took it, and the next day the Hideaki went to battle.
The two groups clashed in a snowy region near the edge of the shinobi world, the former Land of Iron. Using their diverse techniques, the clan was split up in several groups with paths designed to complement one another. The enemy group approached them head-on, so it seemed, confident in their superior numbers. But the Hideaki’s teamwork and combination techniques managed to drive them back, slowly first, then quickly. After seeing their numbers dwindle by 50% despite their overwhelming numbers, the criminals turned around and began fleeing into the frozen forests. Shudan, drunk on glory and victory, ordered his Hideaki to pursue them, track them down and kill them.
His biggest mistake yet.
This was the criminal’s plan all along. They did their research, they knew the clan that was sent to defeat them was cocky and eager to prove itself. They possessed powerful techniques, but their desire for glory would be their undoing. Shudan’s decision drove the Hideaki right into an ambush. As they entered the forest, reinforcements dropped down from the frozen trees and landed within the Hideaki’s very ranks, spreading chaos and throwing the clan into disorganization. On this queue, the previously fleeing main group of criminals turned around and began their assault once again. This time the fighting within the Hideaki’s ranks prevented them from using their combinations, and they were slaughtered on both sides. Shudan himself fought like he never had, enraged at the prospect of being outwitted. He displayed skills never shown before, took down dozens of enemy ninja, but in the end succumbed to his injuries.
When he woke up again, he was alone on an icy ridge, surrounded by corpses of both friends and enemies. The Hideaki Clan was no more. His siblings were dead, his wife was dead, he was alone.
Aftermath- Spoiler:
Shudan made his way back to civilization somehow. When word came out of the Hideaki’s destruction, Shudan, its lone survivor, was stripped of all glory. Other clans mocked him and made fun of him, potential contractors wanted nothing else to do with him anymore. Everything he had achieved over the last ten years was gone. Humiliated and defeated, he retreated back into the shadows, laying low once again. After recovering from his injuries he spent the next few years working alone. He returned to the shadows of the Strip, taking contracts as a private mercenary every once in a while to sustain himself and keep himself alive. He seemed to lack a purpose besides surviving. Living from day to day, he began honing his skills once again, determined to keep the Hideaki’s power alive at least. Even if the Hideaki were no more, he would be the one to bring honor and glory to their legacy. He just had to wait for a new opportunity to arise.
Said opportunity presented itself one day. It was a fateful evening. Shudan was traveling back home after having completed a private contract that had required him to traverse most of the shinobi world. On his way back, he stopped for a drink in a bar. As he was sipping his sake, he overheard a conversation concerning a group named the Hatsukaze, a loosely organized group of clanless ninja with ambitions to create a new country free from any clans. While the goal may have sounded noble, Shudan had different ambitions entirely, and began seaking out the Hatsukaze. He found them, eventually, or at least one of their representatives, somewhere in the mountains of the Lightning Country. The group, while not very well-known, had contacts across the entire shinobi world. What it still lacked was manpower. Shudan, a skilled fighter, ended up joining them as a representative and warrior.
Second Breath - Spoiler:
Shudan had been granted a second chance at glory. Returning home, he began rebuilding the former Hideaki Compound as a base of operations for the Hatsukaze. This worked well for the organization: in many ways the Strip was an ideal vantage point as it was located in the center of the world, surrounded by bigger, more powerful countries. Yet the area surrounding Takigakure was also a calm place where few people ventured, with no big cities to speak of. The only civilization came in the form of small villages and settlements. Not only were there no big clans to interfere with the Hatsukaze, but the townsfolk and the shinobi that it provided would be easy souls to win for their cause, something Shudan saw to.
His first destination was Tanzaku Village. Despite its small size, Tanzaku Village was feared across the Strip. A place shrouded in dark mystery, its leaders were a council of shinobi said to practice dark types of jutsu. Kinjutsu. Shudan figured that if they were going to make an impression on the rest of the Strip, this was the place to start. Arriving at the village, he challenged the council to a one-on-one fight in between him and a champion of their choosing. The council agreed and sent forth their champion, Kanzou.
Kanzou appeared before Shudan in a ring in the center of Tanzaku Village, a hulking brute of almost eight foot high covered in rock-hard mustle. All buff, grinding teeth and angry snarls, yet not a single word escaped the man’s lips. Not even a grunt. The man seemed not entirely human, the look in its eyes more akin to a somewhat sentient beast, nor did his endurance and strength seem natural. Whatever kinjutsu the council was using, it seemed like they weren’t just using them on their enemies.
Taking Tanzaku Village- Spoiler:
Kanzou began attacking Shudan with brutal taijutsu, each blow being enough to almost shatter Shudan’s paths of the Godai Myoo and coming with enough speed that, for a while, Shudan was incapable of forming a good counterattack. Yes, for a good portion of the fight Kanzou had Shudan pinned down, Shudan’s efforts to dodge, parry and block Kanzou’s attacks straining his endurance and chakra reserves, all the while Kanzou kept mowing on like a mindless machine. But then the tide of the battle turned as Shudan finally managed to time a single grab correctly, and grasped the hulking monster’s arm with the pincer generated by one of his paths. With his arm held firmly in a vicegrip, Shudan brought his other hand towards the one beneath the pincer and formed the required hand seal. Kanzou raised his other fist to pummel Shudan in the face, but before he could bring it down on the Hideaki a powerful blast of fire hit him full-front, toppling him over and searing the flesh of his chest.
Shudan fell to his knees in exhaustion, believing the fight to be over. But to his surprise, Kanzou, who should have been writhing in pain, rose again, not giving the slightest indication that anything was bothering him. Shudan was almost dumbstruck, but this time he was prepared for Kanzou’s raw speed and strength, and began forming more seals while Kanzou was still preparing his next assault. Before the giant could close in on Shudan again, he was sent to the ground once more by a wave of crashing water. As he went down, Shudan performed yet another flurry of hand seals. A different type of liquid began creeping towards the fallen giant, still slightly dazed from the crashing wave.
Kanzou tried to get up, but found himself unable to. Something powerful was pulling him back to the ground. He looked to his side, and saw that the water had been replaced with a thick, syrupy liquid. It was the Starch Syrup Capture Field, and before he could think of a way to free himself from its grasp he felt something blocking out the sun above him. He looked up, seeing Shudan stand over him. Believing his end to be near, the giant once again gave no sign of fear. However, something did show in his eyes; a sense of acceptance. Acceptance to a death that would never come, for Shudan merely knocked the giant unconscious.
Shudan raised his arms, turning towards the elders. He claimed his victory, and the elders eyed their fallen champion with mild disappointment. One of them, an old kunoichi with barely a tooth left in her mouth, gave a sickening grin as the cackled,
”Our champion, Kanzou, has fallen. It seems a new vacancy has opened up. Seize him!” she raised her hand as the ordered her ninja to close in on the injured and tired Shudan, but to her surprise the ninja never came.
”Did I not make myself clear?! I said seize him!”
Then, she heard a voice behind her. A cool, calm voice that regarded her with a cold disgust. ”It’s no use. Your shinobi are dead. We used the commotion of the fight to sneak into the village and slay them while they were distracted.” Next, she felt the cold steal of a kunai against her throat as the voice whispered a final message in her ear. One that send shivers down her spine. ”Rest in peace, old bag.” The blade cut through the wrinkled skin of her neck, spilling her blood out on the floor before her. She clawed at her neck once, then fell over, giving a few dying, gurgling breaths.
Tanzaku village had fallen. Shudan gloated with pride over the success of his plan, and fainted.
The Present- Spoiler:
In the following years, the Hatsukaze gained a foothold in the Strip, and Shudan continued to serve dutifully as one of its enforcers and ambassadors, spreading the word across the shinobi world, visiting potential allies and exterminating potential threats. The hulking brute, Kanzou, has become his main bodyguard, an ever silent and intimidating presence. All the while, Shudan follows his own ambitions, and tends to use the Hatsukaze in whatever way he can to make sure he can get back at the Uchiha and all the other clans that disrespected the Hideaki, and increase his own infamy and glory.
Clan: Clanless Rank: Ambassador, soldier Tier: A-3 KKG: Godai Myoo: The Godai Myoo isn’t as much a Kekkei Genkai as it is a Hiden Jutsu, one that can be taught to other clansmen but is kept a strict secret by its few users. The Godai Myoo manifests itself in the use of tattoo’s made of special ink that react to chakra and is specifically designed to react to the chakra of the user. These tattoo’s, once activated, spread to cover a specific part of the body (or extend the body) with a black, hard ink that is light to use yet powerful as steel. This substance is usually designed to create a specific pattern that becomes an extension of the user’s body. Each tattoo is dubbed a “path” and is considered a Ninjutsu technique. An example would be the following: - Spoiler:
Name: Godai Myoo: Saru no Keiro (Five Great Lords: Path of the Monkey) Rank: C Chakra Cost: 15 Force: 120 Type: Ninjutsu - KKG Element: N/A Hand Signs: Boar, Ox, Rat Range: Self Requirements: The Godai Myoo Description: This path’s main tattoo is located on the right chest and is depicted as the kanji for monkey. Once activated, it grows across the right arm, covering it and creating a huge, black hand covering the user’s normal hand. As an extension of the body, it functions as a normal hand and can be used to form seals and hold weapons. Additionally, it is hard as steel and can resist up to C-rank jutsu and basic weapons up to C-rank. It also boosts the user’s punching power to the force indicated above. Drawbacks: Costs chakra for upkeep. Combination with other techs: Godai Myoo: Sarumori Toge (Five Great Lords: Monkey Forest Thorns)
A paths force and duration are always equal. Additionally, each path can have jutsu that revolve around it, manipulating it. Each path can only have up to five jutsu, and no jutsu must be of a higher rank than the path itself. For example: - Spoiler:
Name: Godai Myoo: Sarumori Toge (Five Great Lords: Monkey Forest Thorns) Rank: C Chakra Cost: 14 Force: 115 Type: Ninjutsu - KKG Element: N/A Hand Signs: Rat, Ram Range: 20 meters Requirements: The Godai Myoo, Saru no Keiro being active Description: The user points his hand affected by the Saru no Keiro towards the opponent. On each fingertip, a long nail with grow made of ink. Each nail has the size of a kunai. The nails are then shot towards the opponent at a speed of 50 mph, having the ability to puncture and inflict serious wounds. The user can also perform motions with the hand at the moment that the nails are launched to alter their path, although this usually takes practice. Drawbacks: 1 post cooldown Combination with other techs: Godai Myoo: Saru no Keiro (Five Great Lords: Path of the Monkey)
C-4 to C-1 rank shinobi can only have one path, B-4 to B-2 can train up to two paths. B-1 and A-4 can have three, A-3 and A-2 can have four. Anyone higher can have five. Five paths is the maximum amount any user can achieve, and those who do are greatly respected and exalted, and are generally very powerful shinobi. Shinobi can have one path that is one rank higher than their letter rank. The rest needs to be equal or lower to their own rank. Shinobi of any rank can only have one S-rank path and 2 A-rank paths. Paths can later be “upgraded” to a higher rank in order to increase their deadliness. This requires one to pay half the price of a new technique of the rank the old technique is being upgraded to. Users can automatically repair damaged paths without hand seals, which costs a third of the paths chakra. Kekkei Genkai Techniques: Due to the nature of this technique, many of its users develop their own paths and work on their own techniques and fighting styles based on those paths. As such, there are only a few general techniques that are taught to all users. - Spoiler:
Name: Godai Myoo: Nidan Kaiwa Kori (Five Great Lords: Second Skin Hardening) Rank: C Chakra Cost: 15 Endurance: Type: Ninjutsu - KKG Element: N/A Hand Signs: Boar, Ox Range: Self Requirements: The Godai Myoo Description: This technique can either increase or decrease the hardness of the path it is applied to. Increasing its hardness will increase the rank of technique it can deflect by 100 endurance. For example, if a path is stated to have 150 endurance, it now has 250 endurance. When the hardness is decreased, the ink turns into a soft, gum-like texture that has a sticky quality to it, making it useful for catching enemy weapons or limbs. Drawbacks: Costs chakra for upkeep. Combination with other techs: Any active path.
Name: Godai Myoo: Senshi Shouteki (Five Great Lords: Puncturing Barrier) Rank: C Chakra Cost: 15 Force: 100 Type: Ninjutsu - KKG Element: N/A Hand Signs: Ram, Rat, Hare Range: Self Requirements: The Godai Myoo Description: This technique covers the affected path in thick spikes, each of which is about ten centimeters long. The spikes can be used to injure enemy taijutsu users who would physically attack the path. Drawbacks: Costs chakra for upkeep. Combination with other techs: Any active path.
Items: N/A Abilities/Perks:Knowledgeable: Shudan has spent a large amount of time studying types of jutsu, clans and the history of the shinobi world at large. He is very knowledgeable about clans and ninjutsu and can easily recognize common ninjutsu. Kekkei Genkai Prodigy: When it comes to using the Godai Myoo, Shudan has always been considered a prodigy among his now destroyed clan. Using the Godai Myoo comes naturally to him, and he seems to wield it much more easily than the rest of his clan. Godai Myoo techniques cost 50% less chakra for Shudan. Senses: Having lived most of his life in the shadows, afraid of being hunted by stronger clans, Shudan has developed keen senses for locating danger. His hearing, smell and vision are all twice as strong as normal. This allows him to anticipate attacks better as well as discover genjutsu easier than other shinobi. | |
